US Supreme Court

What is the US Supreme Court? The US Supreme Court is the highest court in United States and has discretionary appellate jurisdiction over federal and state court cases so any case in the US can generally be appealed all the way to the US Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has the power to invalidate a particular state's law for violating the U.S. Constitution. It is also an entire branch of the three branches of US government and currently has nine justices.

The US Supreme Court is not the same thing as "Supreme Court" in the New York state court system. They have similar names but New York State Supreme Court is not affiliated with the US Supreme Court. The highest state level court in New York is the Court of Appeals.
