Theft of services (taxi) dismissed in Manhattan
Our client allegedly refused to pay a cab driver at the end of the trip
and when the police were called, our client persisted by still refusing
to pay the cab driver. The NYPD
arrested our client, charged theft of services (PL 165.15(3)) and released our
client with a desk appearance ticket. Our client
contacted us because was having difficulty sleeping because any conviction would be
a big problem given our client was a professional with a high-level position.
We were able to get our client’s case resolved quickly and quietly
by working out a settlement with the prosecutor that would get the arrest
removed from our client’s criminal record and no conviction. Our
client had to pay a little restitution but no
jail, no probation, and no conviction.
