Domestic violence assault of ex-girlfriend on college campus dismissed
(Manhattan)
2019
Domestic violence cases that happen between schoolmates can be complicated
because any order of protection, which are common, can require the school
to separate the students which can lead to an inability to take certain
courses. Additionally, students are often working on careers which can
be negatively affected by a criminal record. In this case, our client was
arrested for
assaulting a romantic partner causing
physical injury. After our client was
arrested, the order of protection was issued immediately by the arraignment court
judge and our client had to stop going to certain classes. After speaking
with several witnesses, we were able pressure the prosecutor to dismiss
the case because of some severe inconsistencies with the
complainant’s version.
