Domestic violence assault and strangulation criminal charges dropped in Manhattan

2018

Lance’s client and his girlfriend at the time argued often. One night, it allegedly turned physical when our client struck his girlfriend and choked her, causing her to have difficulty breathing. Our client ran away but was later arrested by the NYPD. Our client was working on a degree in school and any conviction or jail would have been catastrophic to his future. Initially, the prosecutor was pushing for conviction and up to a year in jail. Our client was charged with assault and strangulation. After several meeting with the prosecutor and a mitigation package, Lance was able to negotiate a deal where our client would receive a sentence of counseling and community service, but no jail and no criminal record.
