Attempted
grand larceny charges dismissed in press case (Manhattan)
2019
Our client was accused of refusing to return property to someone who had
hired our client to perform services on that property. It was an extortion
according to the district attorney because our client was demanding payment
before returning the property. The case was covered in the local press
because of the novelty of the alleged crime and also due to the identity
of the alleged victim. Our client
contacted us for help. For nearly a year of litigation in which we reviewed police
reports, witness statements, and argued with the prosecutor for a reduction
of the charges. We noticed that the prosecutor made a critical procedural
error and successfully argued for a dismissal based on this error. The
case was dismissed and the record sealed.
