The Red Hook Community Justice Center, opened in 2000, is an expansion of the community court concept to Brooklyn. It operates in a converted catholic school and hears a wide variety of cases including criminal and non-criminal matters. It offers unique treatment and penalty options including psychological counseling, psychotherapy, social services, and youth based programs. A wide variety of misdemeanors are heard by the court from reckless driving and other summonses to shoplifting, theft of services, and other desk appearance ticket matters.
